In 1960 finished Mazsalaca Secondary School. In 1961 started to work at the Riga Film Studios. From 1962 to 1967 worked as a film projectionist, from 1967 to 1989 as an assistant cameraman, and until 1995 as a cameraman.
In 1971 graduated from the Cameramen Department at the celebrated Soviet film school VGIK. Has been working together with such directors as Hercs Franks, Uldis Brauns, Ansis Epners, Aivars Freimanis, Juris Podnieks. Since 1993 working as a lecturer at the Academy of Culture of Latvia. From 1993 - 1997 was a Head of the Film Directors‘ Course. As of 1994 until now working as the Head of the Screen and Theatre Arts Department at the Academy of Culture. |

Has been working as a cameraman for about 56 documentaries, 1 feature film and more than 400 newsreels.
The film "The Life", dir.Hercs Franks, received Grand Prix in Oberhausen Int. Film Festival in 1972 and the 1st Prize in the VI All Union film festival in Alma-Ata in 1973. The film "The Grey Guards", dir. Hercs Franks, received honours at the 11th All Union Film Festival in Erevan in 1978. The film "Four are Looking for a Million" , dir. A. Epners, won Grand Prix at the National Film Festival Lielais Kristaps. The film "Is It Easy To Be Young?", dir. Juris Podnieks, won Grand Prix at the National Film Festival "Lielais Kristaps" and an All Union prize for cameraman‘s work. The film "I am a Latvian" , dir. Ansis Epners, received a prize of the Filmmakers Union at the National Film Festival "Lielais Kristaps". Among other important films are "The Travel to the Earth", "The Precious Hours of our Lives"(dir. U.Brauns), "The White Requiem" (dir. H.Franks), "Punishment for a Dream" (dir.A.Rozenbergs), "Edvard Shavarnadze - from the Past to the Future" (dir.I. Seleckis). |
